I am a Magnificent Normal Person and so are you!

Claudia Aronowitz

A new year offers an opportunity to change and to start new things. It is also an opportunity to become more aware of our strengths in this ever-changing, wonderful and challenging world.

A few weeks ago I was reminded of a simple but powerful concept. Like many of you, I am

A Magnificent Normal Person

There is power and liberation that comes from accepting that we can be both magnificent AND normal.

Magnificent because we all have qualities and strengths that make us unique. We all have the power to positively influence our lives and the lives of others. We all have the ability to adapt, change and grow.

Normal because my life is not extraordinary. My successes are average, I have not invented anything, led new movements or influenced the lives of thousands of people. I am an average human being that has positively touched the lives of those close to me, both through my work and in my community.

A magnificent normal person has strengths and qualities that they like about themselves as well as things that they like less about themselves

This is a good time to remind ourselves of the personal strengths and qualities that we want to use more often in our daily lives.

For me these include my ability to see different perspectives, my ease in showing love to those close to me and my perseverance. Acknowledging these strengths does not make me selfish. It is simply a reminder that I have both flaws and magnificent qualities.

What strengths and qualities do you have that you want to be more aware of and use more often in your daily life?

We all have wonderful characteristics that are part of who we are.

Acknowledging all of our qualities helps us to understand our normality. Our imperfections remind us that we need to continue to grow, and with that growth will come uncomfortable feelings. It is important that we permit ourselves to feel uncomfortable because we need to.

Be uncomfortable in order to feel comfortable.

We need to do things that are outside of our comfort zones if we want to find our magnificence. We should show ourselves compassion and understanding during this process. It is not about doing it fast, it is about leaning into being uncomfortable until it slowly becomes more comfortable.

What are the strengths that you need to remind yourself of in the new year?

What compassion do you need to show yourself?

How can you show up every day as the magnificent normal person that you are?
