The summer heat has made me more philosophical about life.
Like many of my clients, I am entering a different stage in my life. With many years of experience behind me (a nice way to say that I am getting older) I have been contemplating how to use the wisdom I have gained.
How is wisdom connected to our well-being? Keep reading to find out.
WISDOM is a powerful and scary concept.
How can we attain wisdom? What is it? This definition from my mentor Maria Sirois resonates with me:“Wisdom is the pursuit, the quest of what is true and what is needed in the present reality.”
We can break the idea of wisdom into smaller parts:- Humility. The ability to say we are wrong, we don’t know or we need help.
- Acceptance. Accepting our strengths and weaknesses and allowing ourselves to fail as we move forward.
- Open-mindedness. Exploring our questions with curiosity and an open mind before rushing to find answers.
- Accountability. Acknowledging that we are responsible for our own well-being and happiness. We can and should get support but ultimately we are responsible for ourselves.
- Courage. The journey of personal growth is constant and can be difficult. We need courage to learn, change and take steps in different directions.
To find wisdom we also need to slow down!
Being grateful helps in the search for wisdom. Focus on these words as a reminder:
I am trying
I am enough, have always been enough
I am grateful for what I have today in my life
What are your most important values? What are the strengths that make you wiser? Give yourself permission to think more about yourself this month.
I don’t yet know what kind of wisdom this stage of my life will require. I am giving myself time to find the answer and I invite you to do the same.
I hope that the last weeks of summer are wonderful for you. If you have been pondering how to create the changes that you want, please reach out. I am here to support you.
